Back in March, we ran capacity building workshops in each of the three Impact Awards regions. This was the first time we had conducted workshops regionally, as capacity building is a recent addition to our Impact Awards programme.
The decision to change the 'consultancy’ element of the Impact Awards package offered to organisations before 2015 was based on the fact that over the years Awardees had found it difficult to use this element of the package. They struggled to find the time to focus on what their organisation needed in order to develop, as well as find consultants who could provide exactly the right type of training. Awardees also wanted more involvement from Stars to help them spend this part of their package.
So, the capacity building workshops were born, managed by us and facilitated by an external consultant who was an expert in their field. Of course, having made this big change we were eager to receive feedback from the attendees. We wanted to find out how having a few days dedicated to addressing specific areas of organisational management would practically help them in their work. It was also great to hear what they gained from spending time with fellow Awardees from the region.
As well as conducting surveys to get written feedback on each of the workshops, we also held interviews with participants at the Asia-Pacific workshop. Yumi from Blue Dragon Children's Foundation tells us more about what she learnt and what she will take back to her team and implement in their work.
